the world,
its hues drip slowly,
gray veneer colors sigh.
My friends eyes desensitize
and they fail to see the roads leading to the cliffs.
the mountain goats see them
and thank god they have the hooves to make it safely to the bottom
to drink up the flowing river waters--
drinking only from those waters
at the foot of the gorge
